Sharm El-Sheikh is a natural laboratory for travel medicine and public health: a small city that hosts millions of visitors a year. Most of my research starts there.
Research interests
- Epidemiology of illness among tourists in resort settings — gastroenteritis, respiratory infection, injury, and the seasonal patterns behind them
- Quality and patient safety in hotel clinics and tourist medical services
- Travel-insurance and assistance-company claims as a data source for resort medicine
- Swimming-pool and beach safety, drowning prevention and outbreak preparedness in hotels
- Obesity and metabolic disease management in primary care
- Public health emergency preparedness at the local health-office level
- Upper gastrointestinal bleeding risk scores in a district-hospital setting
